The top eight sides from the regular season are battling it out to make the championship final of the CBA playoffs which began on Wednesday.
Fourth-placed finishers Xinjiang Flying Tigers, last year's regular season champions, went down to fifth seeds Dongguan Marco Polo 101-95 in their first match of the best of five series.
Dongguan duo Ronald Randolph and Josh Akognon dominated the game; Randoph sinking 30 points with 14 rebounds, while Akognon collected 24 points, and nine assists.
Elsewhere, the Beijing Ducks, led by former NBA All-Star Stephon Mabury, edged Zhejiang Guangsha 106-103. Beijing had established a 16-point lead in the third period, but Guangsha leveled the score with just 27 seconds remaining, before Beijing guard Lee Hsueh-Lin struck in the final seconds. The 27-year-old sunk a three pointer just on the buzzer to seal the victory for Beijing.
In Wednesday's other games, defending champion Guangdong Hongyuan rolled past Fujian Xunxing 115-97, and Shanxi Zhongyu took an early advantage against the Shanghai Sharks 90-85.
