The 2011 World’s Top 200 Characteristic Charming Cities was unveiled in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Beijing on 16th January. Dongguan, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and 27 other Chinese cities were on the list, reports Xiamen Daily.
The selected cities and businesses will have the opportunity to be invited to hold investment promotions in some of the world’s most famous cities such as New York, Tokyo, London, Singapore, Seoul, Beijing, and Hong Kong.
The listed cities were co-selected by the US-China Economic Trade & Investment General Chamber of Commerce (USCGC), Europe-America-Asia Cooperation Union for Investment in Industry and Commerce (EAACU) and World Cities and World Business Research Association (WWRA) based on 12 indicators.
The list also included 52 American cities, 53 Asian cities, 64 European cities, 23 African cities and 8 Oceanian cities. The other 23 listed Chinese cities are: Chongqing, Tianjin, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Macau, Taipei, Kaohsiung, Chengdu, Xi'an, Suzhou, Wuhan, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Harbin, Qingdao, Dalian, Kunming, Zhengzhou, Ningbo, Xiamen, Huangshan, Daqing and Qufu.
The selection process consisted of public surveys, statistical analysis, on-the-spot research and online election, concerning historical landscapes, cultural background, ecological constructions, environmental protection, industrial development and city management, among others.
The selection was first held in 2007 with the aim in promoting Chinese cities to the world, boost investment, stimulate tourism growth and improve the cities’ core competitiveness.
