Li Yuquan, Mayor of Dongguan, was elected chairman of the city's political advisory body on January 8 at the first plenary session of the 12th CPPCC Dongguan.
Li, 58, will be retair from his mayor position this year. He replaced Liu Shuji, retired chairman of the 11th CPPCC Dongguan Committee.
"I feel the new position is an honorable job with great responsibilities," said Li. "I'll pass on the CPPCC's tradition and try my best to boost Dongguan's development and improve the lives of its residents."
Li said the committee will focus on promoting the industries upgrading in Dongguan, and strengthen the CPPCC's role of democratic supervision on the government works.
The committee's seven vice chairmen and one vice chairwomen were also elected.
