The sharp increase of cost in food has pushed the consumer price index (CPI) in Dongguan up 5.7 percent in November from a year earlier, Dongguan Statistics Bureau said.

The figure represents a fall of 0.5 percent compared with the previous month and but still 0.9 percent higher than the provincial average, due to the rise in the food prices.

Food prices, which have been the major factor behind the CPI rise, showed little signs of slowing down. Food prices last month rose by 12.9 percent, a slight fall of 0.9 percentage points from a month ago.

Non-food categories rose by only 1.7 percent, while the price of daily necessities rose by 5.2 percent.
