On 11th June, approximately 100 students gathered at Songshan Lake for an outdoor lotus sketching activity initiated by the Songshan Lake Administrative Committee and the local Youth Centre. Members of the Hard Pen Calligraphy Association of China and the Calligraphers Association in China were invited to provide guidance.
It was one of many activities held to celebrate the 2nd Campus Festival & the 1st Reading Festival of Songshan Lake. With the slogan, "Appreciate and paint the beauty of lotus in Songshan Lake", the activity was intended to lead youngsters to discover, explore and appreciate the abundant natural beauty. It is also hoped that local participants would have developed a sense of identification and belonging with Songshan Lake.
A variety of artistic mediums were conducted, including oil painting, handmade collages and 3D artworks. Students were asked to freely use their imagination and creativity to express the beauty they perceived in the lotus plants. "This activity helps me to realize how beautiful Songshan Lake is," said one student, as "in the midst of the lotus fragrance I feel inspired."
