The Musical "The Winter of Three Hairs" is adapted from a popular comic strip in China of the same name. Three Hairs, who is better known as San Mao, the main character of the comic strip, tells of his vagabond life in old Shanghai in the 1940s.
This musical drama was created by musician San Bao and playwright Guan Shan as the first original musical drama invested by Poly Theater. The drama won nine awards at last year's art festival in Guangdong Province.
San Mao is a hungry orphan. His goal is to have a sesame cake every day. One day, as he begins his routine of seeking food, he first follows old beggar Lao Sun, but ends up picking up businessman Lao Zhou's purse. When they meet, Lao Zhou shows him the way to make a fortune by cleaning and polishing shoes for pedestrians, when he raises a dispute with his customer Lao Wu, who later helps him attend a feast; and then San Mao is taken to a hospital where he runs into his "mother" in the mortuary. To avoid starving, San Mao gets himself jailed; in the end, he shows up again on the street, this time as a newsboy. In a day full of danger, hardship and comical situations, San Mao fails to fulfill his goal of getting a sesame cake, but has got some sympathy and comfort from the unfortunate but well-meaning people.
