Haogang Site Museum
Ancient human remain unearthed from the tomb
Haogang Shell Mound Site, located in Haogang Village of the Shenghe Community in Nancheng District, has an area of above 650 m2. It is one of the earliest prehistoric culture relics discovered so far, which can be dated back to about 5000 years ago. It is very rare even in China to find such a completely-preserved Neolithic age site in the downtown area of the city. Some ruins of potteries, stone implements, bone tools and clam artifacts were unearthed and important Neolithic age relics such as sintering soil, houses, tombs, ash pits and ditches were also discovered. Two completely-preserved ancient human remains were unearthed from the tomb, so Haogang Shell Mound Site is titled "the first village of Pearl River delta" and "the foundation of Dongguan's history and culture". It plays a significant part in the research of Lingnan prehistorical culture. Constructed with its base on the relic, Haogang Shell Mound Site Museum, with an area of 4645 m2, is a relic subject museum which mainly functions to exhibit the colorful pottery culture of the Three-River Area of the Pearl River, the Yangtze River and the Yellow River. It is a vital window to presenting ancient civilization of Dongguan.
